After spending lots of time watching Storybots with the boy and singing about dinosaurs over and over and over and over again, I thought it would be a great idea to make the boy some dinosaurs for Christmas presents. Starting with Triceratops.
So I found this really cute pattern to use, super simple to follow too. I had the perfect colour to make my first one, a teal double knit yarn. So beautiful.
However, I found out really rather quickly that it the yarn was far too small for this pattern. Not only was it too small the face ended up being so so so wonky. Oops.
That didn’t stop me from thinking it was so cute. It did make me decide to use Aran yarn as the thinnest yarn.
After making my crochet Christmas lights I realised using 2 strands of DK to make a nice chunk would make an amazing sized dinosaur.
The next pattern I found was for a really really teeny tiny T-rex dinosaur (well I think it’s a T-rex anyway). I kinda had to use in a ‘chunky’ yarn (2 DK stranded together) again so it would be the same sort of size as the triceratops.
The downside of the pattern was that it was in Russian. This isn’t the first time I’ve made something from a foreign language and I doubt it’s going to be the last time either.
It’s a very simple pattern although without knowing Russian. I don’t actually know if I made it correctly but I still love it and I hope the boy does too.
He would have more dinosaurs made for him but I think 5 is more than enough. Well for now anyway.
I will admit that it isn’t the best thing I’ve ever made, but the boy will still love it.
